Here’s what the course covers

  • Introduction—A brief background about the global challenges of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM), focusing on the African population.
  • Pretest—Test yourself on what you already know.
  • Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM) Risk Factors, Complications, and Screening—Learn about the screening tools, guideline recommendations on screening, and the specialist to refer to for complications.
  • Diagnosis and Glucose Targets—Learn about the general targets for hemoglobin A1c, the recommended targets in the high-risk, very sick, and elderly patients, and guidance during Ramadan.
  • Treatment—What are the different pharmacological treatment options, and when should they be used?
  • Posttest Quiz—Check how much you’ve learned. Score 80% to earn the certified CPD certificate.

Learning Objectives

After completing this activity, you will be able to:

  • Describe the factors that warrant screening individuals who may be at risk of T2DM
  • Apply guideline recommendations to promptly and accurately diagnose T2DM.
  • Appropriately manage individuals with or at risk of T2DM, considering comorbid diseases such as HIV/AIDS and therapies such as antiretroviral agents associated with glucose metabolism disorders.
